The tricolor flag was recognized in 1906 but after the revolution of 1979 along the central strip are the Arabic words Allah akbar('god is great')repeated 22 times. The coat of arms can be read as a rendition of the word ALLAH, as a globe or tow crescent. The green for Islam, white for peace and red as symbolizing valor.

How is Iran reacting to Bush's speech?
A story worth following.
They aren't very happy about Bush's comment. Iranian leaders are saying that Bush is stirring up "Iranophobia". The Iranian news agency, paraphrasing Boroujerdi, said Bush's talk about Iran "is the saber-rattling of a defeated man."
